FAQ's

What laser do you use?

We use a high power diode laser which is clinically proven to be more effective and more permanent than other lasers such as IPL. Diode laser hair reduction is the proven method for the safest, fastest, and most effective hair reduction for patients of any skin tone.

How does it work?

Diode laser works by targeting the hair beneath the skin and “burning” it out from the follicle. The skin is constantly cooled with the machines built in ice cooler, you will feel a warm sensation (which is the hair beneath skin heating up) combined with a cool feeling on the skin. Essentially, we damage the hair follicle permanently so that the hair can no longer grow.

Will I need a consultation?/am I suitable?

A full consultation is carried out on your first session. Our laser is suitable for all skin types. We will discuss your medical history and manage your expectations for your treatment. It is very rare that someone would be unsuitable for treatment however some medications I.e medications that cause photosensitivity would mean you were not suitable to be treated. Completely grey or blonde hair (on the areas to be treated) are also unsuitable for treatment.

How many sessions are required?

The average amount of sessions for a complete and permanent reduction is 6-8. A full course is classed as 6 sessions. This is because every single patient that undergoes laser will need a minimum of 6 sessions in order to catch all portions of hair in the anagen phase. Only about 15% of hair is in this phase at any given time which is why we leave 4-6 weeks between sessions.

If you require additional sessions, the next 2 are discounted by 50%. Any subsequent sessions are charged at full price however you can also purchase another course or promotional offer should you wish. Top up/maintenance sessions will be required to completely maintain your results. The frequency of which will vary by individual however on average 1 session every 6-12 months is required.

Does it hurt?

The feeling is mostly described as mildly to moderately uncomfortable. You will feel the hair warming up whilst the machine continuously cools your skin. We will never allow you to be in pain and will only treat with a power setting that you are comfortable with.

Can I shave or wax between treatments?

You are permitted to shave as much as you please between treatments however other forms of hair removal such as waxing or plucking are not allowed. This is because we need the hair to be beneath the skin in order to treat it.

Preparation and aftercare advice

For your sessions, you will need to be freshly shaven, free from false tan or sun tan, and without deodorants or moisturisers. Clean and shaven skin enables optimal results as well as speedier treatment times.

After your treatments you will need to avoid tanning the skin with UV. You can apply false tan between sessions however it will need to be completely removed before your next treatment or you will be turned away. There is no downtime with laser hair so you will be able to continue your day as you normally would.
